Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shameem, BP, OSP, BAM, ndc, psc joined Bangladesh Military Academy on 14 Jan 1986 and was commissioned in the Corps of Infantry on 25 December 1987. In his illustrious and colourful long military career, the Officer served in a variety of command and staff appointments at different levels and organizations. He served as Grade-3 Staff Officer (Intelligence) of an Infantry Brigade, Grade-3 Staff Officer (Counter Insurgency) of an Infantry Division, Deputy Assistant Adjutant & Quarter Master General of an Infantry Brigade and Grade-2 and Grade-1 Staff Officer of Military Intelligence Directorate at Army Headquarters.

 

He commanded two Infantry Battalions, Army Security Unit and one Infantry Brigade. He also served as Director of National Security Intelligence (NSI). As Major General he commanded three Infantry Divisions, Ghatail, Chattogram and Savar. He also served as Director General of Bangladesh Ansar & Village Defence Party (VDP). Before joining as Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division, under Prime Minister’s Office, he was General Officer Commanding of 9 Infantry Division and Area Commander, Savar Area. He held various positions outside his direct office that includes Chairman of Bangladesh Amateur Boxing Federation, Chairman Ansar VDP Unnayan Bank, President of Ghatail, Savar and Bhatiary Golf & Country Club and Chief Patron of number of Educational Institutions.

 

The General is a Gallantry Award holder (Bir Protik) who as young officer, showed exemplary leadership and courage having conducted successful operations during his service in counter insurgency operation at Chattogram Hill Tracts. The General has received Oshamanno Sheba Padak (OSP) and Bangladesh Ansar Medal (BAM) for his outstanding contribution to the service.

 

The General served under blue helmet as contingent member in HAITI and as Observer and Sector Commander in Iraq during a very critical period of those countries. He has received Force Commander’s Commendation award in Haiti and Mission Chief’s Commendation award in Iraq.

 

General Shameem obtained his graduation degree from the Bangladesh Military Academy and secured Masters in Defence Studies from the National University of Bangladesh. He obtained Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from American International University Bangladesh (AIUB). The officer is a graduate both from National Defence College (NDC) and Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Mirpur, Dhaka.

 

The General attended number of courses and seminars both at home and abroad. He visited number of countries worth mentioning are USA, Haiti, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Bhutan, Indonesia, UAE, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, Thailand, India etc. The officer is a very good football, badminton and tennis player. He is also an keen golfer.

 

Lieutenant General Shameem is married to Rehana Parveen Mukti and blessed with a son and a daughter. His son is a second generation Army Officer of Bangladesh Army, who is recipient of ‘Sword of Honour’, ‘CAS Gold Medal’ and ‘Kudrat-E-Khuda Gold Medal’.
