Victory Day

Victory day (weRq w`em) is celebrated on 16 December commemorating the ultimate victory in our Liberation War in 1971. On this day in 1971, Pakistani Army surrendered in Dhaka marking the end of nine months atrocities in Bangladesh. Pakistani General AAK Niazi officially surrendered to the Allied Forces Commander General Jagjit Singh Aurora. With that Bangladesh gained independence after a long 9 months genocide and blood bath.

 

To celebrate the victory day in a befitting manner with the support of three Services Headquarters (Army, Navy & Air Force), Armed Forces Division (AFD) undertakes the following programmes :

  

  • Observe the day as public holiday. 
  • Special prayers at all Armed Forces Mosques for peace and advancement of the nation and the continuous progress of Armed Forces. 
  • Begin the day with 31 gun fires at the sun rise under the supervision of Army at the old airport area. 
  • Hoist national standard at Armed Forces Headquarters, units and other installations. Arrange illumination at the buildings and installations designated by the three services. 
  • Coordination of the wreath laying of Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister’s at the National Mausoleum, Saver.

  • Arrange special treat at all units/sub units/base/sainik mess. 
  • Improved diet is served in military hospitals including CMH under local arrangements. 
  • Army, Navy and Air Force plays drum/music at some nodal points of Dhaka, like crescent lake area, park area and national stadium at Mirpur-2. 
  • Display naval vessels at Chattogram, Khulna, Mongla Ports, Dhaka Sadarghat, Narayanganj and Barisal BIWTA terminal to remain open for public visits from 1400 hrs to sunset. 
  • Reception of Freedom Fighters and the important dignitaries at Banghabhaban.
  • Projection of films at cinema halls of cantonment areas free of cost.
  • Coordinate and arrange the National Day Parade at National Parade Square, Old Airport, Dhaka in close coordination with Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
